How to open a vertical murphy bed

Vertical Murphy Bed Operation

All of our vertical beds operate the same.  The entire face of the Murphy bed comes down by grabbing and pulling the handles.  In most cases, the bed can be easily opened using one hand. The beds are attached to your wall (at the top), which keeps them from moving forward, backwards, or side to side. When appropriately attached to the wall, your murphy bed is as solid as the rest of your wall.  We DO NOT manufacture our beds with bi-fold doors that open and block the sides of the bed. The doors and/or drawer fronts on the face are merely for decoration and do not open or close. Check out the steps below to see how easy it is to operate our beds!

STEP 1.Grab Handle

To open the bed, begin by grabbing the handles towards the top of the bed. (Handles on the face of the bed are also used to help enhance the appearance of the doors/drawers.  Placement will vary on each face style).

STEP 2.Pull Bed Open

Our murphy beds use a piston system that allows you to pull the bed down with a nice controlled motion and with little effort. Because the pistons are located near the bottom of the bed, using the handles nearest the top will provide better leverage as you lower the bed.

STEP 3.Grab Both Legs

CLOSING OUR BEDS:

Helpful Reminders......

  • Pillows Must be romved before closing the bed.
  • Sheets will need to be tucked in so they do not hang out of the sides.
  • Blankets can remain on the bed but will also need to be tucked in.
  • When the bed face is half way up, make sure to rotate both legs to the closed position.
  • The last few inches of closing the bed face you will feel the face being drawn into the bed cabinet.  Make sure to guide the bed face closed using the decorative handles on the face of the bed.

Common Question: Can a small child pull down the murphy bed? A child less than 4 foot will not be able to open the bed. The upper decorative handles on the face of the bed are used to leverage the bed open to pull the bed down, which a child is not tall engout to reach these handles. A lock is not necessary to keep the bed from opening due to the mechanism we use.

Please give us a call if you have any questions about the operation of our murphy beds. (1-866-783-5105)
