NO Box Spring is required!
One thing that makes our Murphy bed unique is its built-in mattress platform. The “backbone” of a Bedder Way Murphy bed is our strut framework. This framework is soundly constructed with kiln-dried, solid poplar struts. Each strut is built by gluing and fastening two ¾” x 1½” pieces of solid poplar wood in an “L” shape. This creates a beam structure which minimizes deflection and produces a framework that will support up to 2,500 lbs.
Bedder Way Co. wall beds are built to accommodate any standard innerspring mattress up to 12 inches in total thickness. Our beds are built in accordance with industry standard sizing, so there is no need to look for a custom “Murphy bed mattress.” The table below gives industry standard size mattress dimensions. Any uncommon length of mattress will require a modification to the construction of our wall beds. We can accommodate most uncommon size mattresses for an additional charge – ask us for details. |

| QUEEN Size Mattress |
60 inches by 80 inches |
| FULL / Double Size Mattress |
54 inches by 75 inches |
| TWIN Size Mattress |
39 inches by 75 inches |
If your mattress exceeds 12 inches in total thickness, we can build your wall bed with a deeper cabinet for an additional charge. Contact us to discuss your specific mattress requirements.
When you close your wall bed, you can leave your sheets, blankets and comforter in place. Just be sure to tuck in each of these in order to hide any evidence of such when the bed is completely closed. Most of our customers that purchase Vertical beds will hang a picture on the wall inside the bed, which makes the bed more decorative when the bed is down. When using a 12 inch mattress (maximum size) you will have 2 inches of space left inside when the bed is closed. The straps used to hold the mattress down will keep the mattress away from your hanging picture when closed.
Our wall beds can accommodate a Temporpedic / Latex mattresses. These mattresses tend to be a bit heavier than standard innerspring mattresses. This is no problem for our piston system! Please be aware, however, that the bed will be a heavier to operate with one of these types of mattresses. If you have any further questions about this, please let us know.

You can NOT use a blow up air mattress with our wall beds. They do not offer enough weight to work with our piston system. Select Comfort mattress are also not recommended due to their lack in weight. If you have any further questions about this, please let us know.

We do not offer king size wall beds at this time. Because the faces of our beds come as one big piece, we have found that most spaces are unable to accommodate such a large piece. Remember, the face of our bed is roughly the size of a corresponding box spring. Just think how large a king size box spring would be! Most king size mattresses rest on two twin size box springs for just this reason.
